Evidence To Public Health Policy Abstracts: Understanding the Contextual Factors That Influence Village Health, Sanitation and Nutrition Committees in Northern India

Journal article

This paper provides an in-depth contextual analysis of an intervention to strengthen Village Health, Sanitation and Nutrition Committees (VHSNCs) in rural North India. It examines features at the levels of the community, health facility, health administrative and broader social sphere that have influenced VHSNC outcomes. In spite of some tangible achievements, the paper identified social hierarchies and under resourced health systems as critical barriers to their effective functioning.
