Whole of government and whole of society approaches: call for further research to improve population health and health equity

To address the ongoing pandemic, national, regional and global policymakers continue to call for whole of government (WoG) and whole of society (WoS) strategies.2 3 Countries’ responses to COVID-19 exemplify the relevance of WoG and WoS approaches, as a means to bringing together different actors to address complex challenges and achieve interrelated goals—essential in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) era. The purpose of this commentary is to provide insights as to how WoG and WoS approaches are understood and implemented, and to identify potential barriers and areas for further research.
